Well dear readers…….I was expecting a quite first week in the New Year……with most of Ukraine and Russia being closed or only half working.
So today, New Years Eve……you can imagine my shock, disbelief and slight annoyance at a phone call from Moscow………and a summons there from a business I have dealings with.
I hope you all have a wonderfully peaceful and relaxed start to the new year……..seems I won’t!
Victor Yanukovych, the leader of the Party of Regions, has intention of taking part in televised debates before the possible runoff of the presidential election, the party press service has announced in a statement
“Victor Yanukovych of course will take part in televised debates with that candidate for president who will make it to the second round,” said Member of Parliament Hanna Herman, deputy chairwoman of the Party of Regions faction at the Verkhovna Rada.
Alongside with this she has stressed that now it is early to speak about such debates namely with Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, another runner in the election, as it is not known if she will ever make it to the runoff.
As earlier reported, Tymoshenko on Dec. 28 one more time called Yanukovych for public debates, saying she wanted to listen to him personally telling her about the state residence Mezhigorye in the village of Noviye Petrovtsy, Vyshghorod district, Kyiv region. – Ukrainian News
Well dear readers……..what a laugh this will turn out to be.
If this is not scripted then poor old Viktor Yanukovych…….who is not the sharpest tool in the political toolbox………will get absolutely crucified by Yulia Tymoshenko……..who is probably the sharpest tool in the Ukrainian political toolbox……..even if she isn’t on my Christmas Card list!
Not that it really matters, the election comes down to who the Ukrainians at least likely to vote for in a contest between charlatans……not who will do a better job.
BERLIN (AP) — German authorities granted formal approval Monday to build a pipeline to transport natural gas under the Baltic Sea from Russia, meaning that just one permit from Finland is still outstanding, the company running the project said.
Nord Stream AG said Germany’s Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency granted a permit to build a 19-mile (31-kilometer) stretch of the pipeline in Germany’s exclusive economic zone.
Nord Stream already has a second German permit covering the 31-mile (50-kilometer) section in German territorial waters, and has permits from Denmark, Sweden and Russia, through whose waters the pipeline will pass.
“We are firmly on schedule to start construction of the pipeline in spring 2010 and to start transporting gas in 2011,” Nord Stream managing director Matthias Warnig said in a statement.
The only permit still outstanding for the €7.4 billion ($10.6 billion) project is one of two required from Finland, the consortium said.
Once completed, the 750-mile (1,200-kilometer) pipeline is expected to carry 55 billion cubic meters of gas a year from the Russian port of Vyborg to the German port of Greifswald.
Russia’s Gazprom holds 51 percent of the joint venture. German energy companies E.ON Ruhrgas AG and Wintershall AG each hold 20 percent, while Dutch company Nederlandse Gasunie NV holds the remain.
Well, this is the result of the elite pillaging billions from Ukraine, investing nothing in Ukraine and then the current President showing his metaphorical a*se to Putin in a misguided notion that the door will be open from the EU and NATO and Ukraine can just walk in……with nobody in the EU noticing you didn’t pay your gas bills but would put 100% of the blame on Russia none-the-less.
Didn’t really work out that way though now did it.
As soon as this and South Stream are done Ukraine can forget any transit fees for Gas……..and as it is there is now only Yushni docks in Ukraine dealing in oil from Russia for export.
It seems both the EU and Russia cannot or do not trust the Ukrainian political elite to sort their sh*t out anytime soon…….and by the time they do it will be at the cost of the transit fees through the nation.

How to live in a world that’s politically correct?
His workers no longer would answer to “Elves”,
“Vertically Challenged” they were calling themselves.
And labor conditions at the north pole
Were alleged by the union to stifle the soul.
Four reindeer had vanished, without much propriety,
Released to the wilds by the Humane Society.
And equal employment had made it quite clear
That Santa had better not use just reindeer.
So Dancer and Donner, Comet and Cupid,
Were replaced with 4 pigs, and you know that looked stupid!
The runners had been removed from his sleigh;
The ruts were termed dangerous by the E.P.A.
And people had started to call for the cops
When they heard sled noises on their roof-tops.
Second-hand smoke from his pipe had his workers quite frightened.
His fur trimmed red suit was called “Unenlightened.”
And to show you the strangeness of life’s ebbs and flows,
Rudolf was suing over unauthorized use of his nose
And had gone on Geraldo, in front of the nation,
Demanding millions in over-due compensation.
So, half of the reindeer were gone; and his wife,
Who suddenly said she’d enough of this life,
Joined a self-help group, packed, and left in a whiz,
Demanding from now on her title was Ms.
And as for the gifts, why, he’d ne’er had a notion
That making a choice could cause so much commotion.
Nothing of leather, nothing of fur,
Which meant nothing for him. And nothing for her.
Nothing that might be construed to pollute.
Nothing to aim. Nothing to shoot.
Nothing that clamored or made lots of noise.
Nothing for just girls. Or just for the boys.
Nothing that claimed to be gender specific.
Nothing that’s warlike or non-pacific.
No candy or sweets…they were bad for the tooth.
Nothing that seemed to embellish a truth.
And fairy tales, while not yet forbidden,
Were like Ken and Barbie, better off hidden.
For they raised the hackles of those psychological
Who claimed the only good gift was one ecological.
No baseball, no football…someone could get hurt;
Besides, playing sports exposed kids to dirt.
Dolls were said to be sexist, and should be passe;
And Nintendo would rot your entire brain away.
So Santa just stood there, disheveled, perplexed;
He just could not figure out what to do next.
He tried to be merry, tried to be gay,
But you’ve got to be careful with that word today.
His sack was quite empty, limp to the ground;
Nothing fully acceptable was to be found.
Something special was needed, a gift that he might
Give to all without angering the left or the right.
A gift that would satisfy, with no indecision,
Each group of people, every religion;
Every ethnicity, every hue,
Everyone, everywhere…even you.
So here is that gift, it’s price beyond worth…
“May you and your loved ones enjoy peace on earth.”
