Quote of the year……..And confirms what I have been saying to foreign investors……

August 31, 2009

Well dear readers……at last, an extremely successful Ukrainian businessman has come out and said exactly what I have been telling foreign investors……..and several US investors recently…….on an almost hourly basis…….as what I am telling them just does not seem to sink in……

“He also admits he is not particularly interested in foreign investors who will require detailed explication of the fund’s technology. “There are plenty of resources in Ukraine for investment, so foreign investors are not a priority at the moment.” Grib says it took him only one week to raise the fund’s UAH500m and that with only talking to 20% of the people on his list. “25% of the money is mine, and the rest belongs to private individual investors,” he says.”

So, once again, for the benefit of those US investors, who will once again, today, try and tell me nobody will do it like that, I will say once again………

There is no shortage of money in Ukraine for the right deals…….it does not need foreign investment in the best deals……money is always (and easily) found for the good deals.  If you want to get in on the good deals, then you have to do it the Ukrainian way.  If you don’t like it, don’t do it……..but they won’t change their ways for you.

The FSU is still not a place for the faint of heart or western styled business model……so you are either in or you are out……but stop wasting my time with your “Yes but’s….”, “will they do it like this because nobody will do it that way…….” crap.

As this article clearly shows you numb-nuts, what I am telling you is true…….so put up or shut up!!!

……You just can’t tell some people!!

Gone Fishing!!

August 30, 2009

As much as I detest drowning worms for an entire day………..the boy enjoys it………so like all good parents it is time to suffer for the enjoyment of the lad.

Today……..I have gone fishing!!!

Gone Fishing 1

The sacrifices, we as parents make eh!

Well……..As much as it would save money…..would it be a good thing?

August 29, 2009

Well dear readers, for the avid readers of my blog…….bless you all…… will know that there is a presidential election coming up in January.

In Ukraine, there is normally 2 rounds of voting, the first to include all candidates and the second, a run off between the top 2 after Round 1……..unless a candidate gets a certain percentage of the vote nullifying the requirement for Round 2.

Obviously this costs $ Millions to do, both in advertising, media coverage, entrance fees for the candidates, rallies, book signings, envelop openings, luncheons, dinners, bribes, backhanders, coercion, espionage, sabotage, kissing babies, hugging babooshka’s, lies, misleading statements, statistical manipulation, promises, threats, policy creation, policy cancellation, policy manipulation, complete and utter lack of policy, external influences from the West, external influences from the East, poisonings, alleged poisonings, strategic partnerships, reneging on strategic partnerships, forming new strategic partnerships…….and all the other regular political showmanship bullsh*t associated with elections.

Therefore to do it all twice is an expensive process.

This does not take into consideration, the loss of man-hours from the workplace for 46 million people to vote…….twice!!

Now, there is a lot of time between now and January……and 24 hours is a long time in politics……..but Viktor Yukanovych seems to be extending his lead on everybody with the release of every opinion poll.

The last poll I saw had him having more percentage of the vote than Yulia Tymoshenko and Arseniy Yantseniuk added together…….and they are his closest two rivals.

So should the trend continue, it is possible he could actually win in the 1st Round which would be an amazing mandate.

As he is very likely to win whether it takes 1 or 2 Rounds to do it, the question is……..would it be a good thing to have a second Round?

……Errrrm, no, I know I haven’t mentioned the man’s politics……..there is plenty of time between now and January to politically assassinate each and every candidate……..and of course I will do so…….in a literary sense.  It is a question of finance verses reason and constitution.

Way to busy today……So Here’s Olga

Well, You’ve Got To Chuckle Just A Little……..

August 27, 2009

Well dear readers, you’ve got to laugh…….or at least chuckle a bit at the words of President Yushenko on the Ukrainian Independence Day.

I quote……..

“I choose a strong state, strength and dignity, to put in their place not only our local feudals but also foreign overlords who want to set down how we should live.”

……..Not only is there yet another (yawn) swipe at his political rivals “local feudals”…….all of whom will severely kick his arse in the elections in January……but the “foreign overlords who want to set down how we should live.”

Now whilst this little jibe is obviously aimed at Russia (again)…….I cannot help but notice his naivety……after all, this is a man who thinks Ukraine’s future is within the EU.

…….Exactly, that would be the same EU which does actually “set down how we should live” from a completely unelected power base which sits above the elected EU Parliament and has no electoral connection to the voters of any nation within the EU.

…….Eh?……..Well yeh, a kind of “Polit Bureau” as once ruled the USSR which works the same way.  National Sovereignty…….but “do as we say” in the grand scheme of things.

Out of the frying pan and into the fire…….as the saying goes!!

The Circus Officially Begins on 19th October……..

August 26, 2009

Well dear readers, the circus which is the Ukrainian Presidential election officially starts on 19th of October…….

Official presidential election campaign to start on October 19, 2009
This was disclosed by Central Election Commission (CEC) member Mykhailo Okhendovsky. Okhendovsky said that the election would be held in two rounds. He said that the first round would be held on January 17, 2010, while the second one, if needed, would be held on February 7, 2010.

It seems to me it has already started……..Yatseniuk army styled tents all over the bloody place with young people trying to force leaflets on you, Yakanovych, Tymoshenko have both been in the City in the past 10 days and huge bill-board posters of every man/women and their dog who have entered the race covering any available surface.

Of course, there is still a chance that it won’t happen at all…….if the current President Yushenko can find a reason to prolong his place at the top…….constitutionally or unconstitutionally.

The problem with basing a political system on the system of the USA is that it just goes on toooooooooo damn long and people have lost interest or become immune to political engineering by the time the voting comes around.

If you cannot make your political points in a 2 month time frame……..whilst saving an absolute financial fortune doing so in such a time frame…….then starting it now just doesn’t help much anyway.

Most people have already decided who they will vote for…….well, maybe not……..but most have decided who they will not vote for and that’s a fact.

The next President of Ukraine, will not be (on current standings)…….

Viktor Yushenko (current President), Vladimir Lytvyn (current Speaker), Arseniy Yatseniuk (maybe next time but probably time after that), Anatoliy Hrytsenko (ex Defence Minister), Oleh Tyahnybok (Leader of Lviv regional Council), Serhiy Tyhypko (ex CEO of the National Bank), Inna Bohoslovska, Natalia Vitrenko or any other two-bit, never heard of politician which has entered.

From the list above, only one really stands a chance of being a fly in the soup for Tymoshenko or Yanukovych and that is Yatseniuk……but he has a lot going against him which will become more apparent at the election draws closer.

Oh well……now I have introduced all the clowns from the circus dear readers…….you will notice a distinct lack of Ring Master once again amongst them.

More of the same ahead then……..

The Morning After……..

August 25, 2009

Well dear readers……today is the morning after Indepedence Day in Ukraine…….

One of the few things which has bucked the crash of the Ukrainian economy is Vodka production and sales…….unsurprisingly.  Well, vodka here is cheaper than water…….no seriously, it is……. and when the whole economic system around you is in free-fall…….with a Government which cannot find it’s arse with both hands, let alone deal with such a crisis……many people may prefer to see the world around the through Vodka Goggles for a few months.

Vodka Goggles.......A Different Perspective

Vodka Goggles.......A Different Perspective

Vodka production in the first six months of the year is up 30% on the same period last year.

Here is a quote from the Ukrainian Government source…………

Vodka production records almost 30% growth in Ukraine
Ukrainian vodka distilleries kept on stepping up production volumes January to July 2009 compared to the same period of 2008.

At the same time, production of cognacs, liquors and beer, including mineral water, demonstrated decline, the State Statistics Committee reported. In particular, production of vodka and other strong drinks rose by 29.9% to hit 25.8 million decaliters. Cognac production for the period under report recorded 80.2% fall totaling 1.5 million decaliters; production of liquors, sweets, alcoholic tinctures, other vodka, other strong drinks dropped down by 46.2% to 7.9 million decaliters; output of malt beer reduced by 6.3% to 191 million decaliters.

So…….here’s hoping the nation will be sober enough to notice if things get any better.

Happy Independence Day Ukraine……Still Busy Though…..No Holiday For Me

August 24, 2009

Today is a national holiday in Ukraine, celebrating 18 years since it’s decaration of independence from the USSR.

Sadly…….I’m busy……..Like I said yesterday, still seeing men about dogs!

I can just about remember being 18……no wonder the country is still f*cked up!!!
