A step towards State transparency?

May 15, 2010

Well dear readers, it appears Ukraine has hired a team consisting of Trout Chacheris,  Kroll, Inc. and Akin Gump Strauss Hauer & Feld, LLP to audit the Ukrainian figures for the period of the last 5 years.

Witch hunt?  Quite probably considering most involved will still hold Deputy immunity from prosecution (unless it is stripped from them by their RADA colleagues)……with the exception of Ms Tymoshenko, who is not an MP and has no immunity.

However, the PoR will undoubteldy be aware that by taking this action, when their time is over, any new government will take the same action and audit their actions as well…….which hopefully means they will steal less from the State than the last administration.

If that is a continual cycle then we should see steps towards a more transparent State accounting…….which can only be a good thing.

It is unfortunate that of course this will be identified as a witch hunt…….although undoubtedly the last administration stole billions from Ukraine…… every administration since independence…….but you have to start somewhere I suppose, so why not start now and with the last outgoing authority.

Of course the now opposition are not happy with the companies involved in the auditing but if they have nothing to hide, 3 foreign companies should make them feel more comfortable and not less comfortable.

They are of course also complaining the State will be footing the bill for the audit of the State…….bizarre!
