Well dear readers, yesterday’s post regarding the comment of Mr Tomenko and what could be inferred as a distancing of himself from the actions of his party was interesting but not necessarily indicative of anything.
However, the new mayor of Zaporizhia, Olexander Sin, having been elected to the position on the Batkivschyna Party less than 5 weeks ago, has announced he has left the party.
Why?
“I am giving up membership of the Batkivschyna Party to be able to work normally, and so that no political context is a source of provocations and insinuations about me.”
Is there the beginnings of a split within Batkivschyna? A vote of confidence in the leadership (or lack of) Yulia Tymoshenko looming in the next few months? Unlikely I think, but not impossible, and probably needed given she was not even welcomed at the tax protests by protesters against the government.
For certain Batkivschyna need to reinvent itself before the 2012 elections or they will continue to hemorrhage votes to Yatsenuik’s Front for Change and even the ultra nationalist Svoboda Party.
Something to watch over the next few months I think.
