Sorry Mr Ambassador, you’re being evicted!

March 5, 2010

Well dear readers…..here’s a bit of a diplomatic nightmare in the waiting!

The comments are taken from Interfax-Ukraine and were given to them by BYuT faction members in the Kyiv City Administration (so not necessarily true……but then again the Kyiv Mayor,  ”Kosmos” is not know as “Kosmos” because he deals in most people’s realms of reality…..so who knows)……

Kyiv municipal council has decided to privatize the buildings housing 13 embassies and the European Commission’s Delegation to Ukraine, according to the press service of the bloc.
I hope Leigh Turner is checking his lease right now!

“The current authorities in the capital have placed communal buildings housing embassies and consulates of foreign countries on auction,” the press service said.

According to the bloc, the council’s pro-Mayor Leonid Chernovetskyi majority adopted the relevant decision on Sept. 17, 2009, by making the relevant amendments to the program for privatization of communal property in the 2007-2010 period.

BYT said that if these buildings are sold at auction, their new owners could decide to evict the tenants.

Thus, according to BYT, the embassies of France, Austria, Turkey, the Czech Republic, Croatia, Armenia, Kyrgyzstan, Cuba, Bulgaria, Romania, Egypt, Algeria, and Poland, as well as the European Commission’s Delegation to Ukraine face the threat of eviction.

I hope Leigh Turner is checking the terms of the UK lease in Kyiv!

I want a job in a “Think Tank”

March 5, 2010

Tired of working for a living?  Life is a grind and wearing you down?…….What about a job in a “Think Tank”?

Interfax-Ukraine.  Ukrainian experts have put forward recommendations in a paper entitled “Ukraine’s new foreign policy: four strategic priorities” for Ukrainian President Victor Yanukovych.

The recommendations were presented in the Interfax-Ukraine news agency on Wednesday with the participation of the leadership of the International Center for Policy Studies and the International Center for Policy Studies.

The experts said they had drawn up a “simple and flexible” plan of answers to future challenges for the Ukrainian president. Director of the International Center for Policy Studies Olha Shumylo told reporters that these recommendations would be given to Yanukovych next week, as well as to representatives of the Presidential Administration, the Foreign Ministry and the Interior Ministry of Ukraine.

The experts in their recommendations pointed out four strategic priorities in Ukraine’s foreign policy: the return of confidence in the state, the resumption of relations with Ukraine’s main partners (Russia, the European Union and the United States), the preservation of sovereignty and independence, and becoming an active and constructive player in the region.

Head of Foreign Policy Program at the International Center for Policy Studies Sacha Tessier-Stall said that a coordinated and single position of everyone who represents the country is needed in order to restore the confidence of Ukraine’s partners.

The leadership of the country also should build understanding that politicians in Ukraine are pro-Ukrainian, but not “pro-western” or “pro-Russian.” Tessier-Stall also proposed to affirm positive image of Ukraine via bilateral and multilateral relations, assist in developing cultural diplomacy, and host the Euro 2012 European Football Championship at a worthy level.

In terms of relations with Russia, the EU and the United States, according to Tessier-Stall, these are the most important partners for Ukraine and good relations with them is an important condition for Ukraine’s security and development.

Yes indeed dear readers……you too can have your 15 minutes of fame…..and get paid for it……by stating the bloody obvious!
